What Manual Lymphatic Therapy IS and IS NOT

It's important to understand the difference between true Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and the post-operative "lymphatic massage" you might receive at a recovery house.

New paragraph

Real MLD is different. As a certified Manual Lymphatic Therapist, I perform MLD using gentle and relaxing techniques. Instead of forcefully expelling fluids through open wounds, I work to slowly and carefully move congested lymph fluid—which contains waste products like anesthesia and bacteria—toward the lymph nodes. From there, the lymph is naturally processed by your liver and kidneys and expelled through urination and bowel movements. This method is safe, effective, and promotes healing without the risk of infection.

Why Certification Matters

In some cases, your surgeon may recommend fluid drainage by a nurse. If so, this should only be done in a sterile medical setting, never by unqualified individuals or in non-medical environments like recovery houses. Always ensure that your therapist is board-certified and licensed in lymphatic therapy. If these credentials are not visible, I strongly advise against proceeding with the session.

The Dig Deep Experience

At Dig Deep Massage Therapy, your comfort and safety are my top priorities. In my serene, private setting, you’ll receive care without the discomfort of crowded waiting rooms. My facilities include a meticulously clean bathroom conveniently located near the treatment rooms—ideal for when you need to urinate immediately after your session without having to put your clothes and compression garments back on.

My massage tables are designed for maximum comfort, with specialized bolstering to support your body, particularly if you've had a BBL or similar procedure. You’ll lie on your back with your lower body comfortably cradled, allowing your muscles and tissues to fully relax.

My Approach to Your Recovery

Each session begins with a careful assessment of your tissue to identify any pockets of fluid or fibrosis. I then perform MLD using gentle hand techniques that will help you relax deeply. Next, I use light vacuum therapy with a specialized machine, followed by smoothing techniques to enhance your results. After each session, you’ll look and feel significantly better. No matter which procedure you've had, I have the expertise and techniques to support your recovery every step of the way.
